7 1/2 Lessons About the Brain by Lisa Feldman Barrett is a fantastic little book that everyone should read. In 125 pages, she provides critical insights into how the three pounds of matter between your ears work to shape your experience. I first learned about it on Episode 247 of Sam Harris’ podcast “Making Sense.” The lessons (one per chapter) are:
Your brain is not for thinking (this is the half lesson)
You have one brain (not three)
Your brain is a network
Little brains wire themselves to their world
Your brain predicts (almost) everything you do
Your brain secretly works with other brains
Brains make more than one kind of mind
Our brains can create reality
Get the book and spend 20-30 minutes every morning for a week diving into the details. It’s well worth it!
