Try reading a book, preferably fiction, for at least thirty minutes immediately before going to sleep every night. Keep the lights low and remove potential distractions, whether you are already in bed or not. Turn off your digital devices and put them in another room.
Many people do this already, and it’s a fantastic mental habit for a few reasons:
It gets your eyes away from screens and allows your brain and nervous system to wind down instead of being stimulated.
Novels don’t get your mind churning like nonfiction works do. They are meant as entertainment, not education. There’s a reason why parents read stories to their kids at night instead of history lessons.
You can even think of this as a bedtime story. Afterward, just tuck yourself in.
