Your brain is far more plastic than we ever thought possible. There is no immutable you floating around in your head. You are not limited by some preordained “just the way I am.” And even if you suffer an injury inside your head, your brain can adapt remarkably.
The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge is a book that opened my eyes to what’s possible with our brains and, in turn, our minds. It’s inspiring, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in stories about the art of the possible.
Always up for new book recommendations! I’ll check this out.
One of my favorites and also educational. There is a documentary by the same author and name that is worth watching also.
Have you also read his book "The Brain's Way of Healing"? This is on my "must read" list for people with chronic illness ( I included my list here https://garysharpe.substack.com/p/lessons-learned-in-the-crucible-of )
I haven't read that book but will add it to my list! I'm a chronic illness sufferer so I'm very interested to check it out. Thanks!
