This month's article was about repressed emotions and how they can get trapped in the body. If you want to learn more about the science of how this works, complete with personal stories of healing, I highly recommend The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk.
During my mind fitness journey, I realized how trauma (specifically our reaction to it) can affect us physically. I understood this general concept anecdotally for years based on my own experiences, but this book truly cemented it in my psyche as a fact.
Rarely have I read something and thought to myself, "...where was this 10, 20, 30 years ago?" Thanks for highlighting this powerful and incredibly relevant book, brother. It has gone from book, to manual, to guide for me and something I committed to read yearly until it's read to me by someone else while I'm sitting in a rocking chair somewhere grateful for what I learned from this book, and from friends like you.
Clint - thanks so much for the thoughtful commentary. I read a lot of books where I feel the same way! I guess better late than never. Any other "must reads" you have please let me know. Always on the lookout for more. Stay well brother.
Not a week goes by that I don't say to someone, "The Body Keeps the Score." Fantastic book!
